Tata Motors JLR collaborates with Chery Automobiles

Tata Motors subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover Limited (JLR) collaborates with its Joint Venture partner Chery Automobile to create EVs in China.

In a recent filings by Tata Motors , which stated that Tata Motors subsidiary “Jaguar Land Rover Limited (JLR)” collaborates with Chery Automobile to create EVs in China.

Chery Automobile has also a Joint Venture with JLR since 12-years . Both of them have signed  a Letter of Intent to strengthen their products in China.

Chery Automobile holds a leading position in automotive market in China.

Details of their collaboration :

JLR stated that –

  • JLR and Chery have signed a Letter of Intent to license the Freelander brand to CJLR for the creation of electric vehicles in China.
  • CJLR will revive the Freelander brand, creating a new portfolio based on Chery’s EV architecture, manufactured in Changshu.
  • The Freelander EV portfolio will be built alongside CJLR’s existing models, marking a new chapter for the CJLR Joint Venture.
  • Freelander will offer a range of electric vehicles for sale in China through a distinct retailer network, with plans for global export over time.
  • The Freelander portfolio represents independent growth, separate from both Chery’s existing lineup and JLR’s modern luxury House of Brands.

Adrian Mardell, JLR’s CEO, stated, “This strategic step underscores our commitment to China and complements our existing business there. Collaborating in the world’s largest EV market with the Freelander brand promises an exciting future for CJLR.”

Revenue split of Tata Motors

The revenue mix for FY24 shows that Jaguar Land Rover contributes 67%, Tata Commercial Vehicles 19%, Tata Passenger Vehicles 11%, Vehicle Financing 2%, and Others 1%.

This data shows that the revenue of JLR is more among all the other vehicles of TATA MOTORS. The collaboration between JLR and Chery would benefit Tata Motors as a whole.
